The Federal Road Safety Corps, Gombe sector command has urged residents to show concern to victims of road traffic crashes and their families, friends and loved ones and assist them to ameliorate their suffering and aid recovery.

According to the sector commander Dr Godwin Omiko, he noted that about 269 crashes, 794 injured and 134 death cases from January to date. He made this revelation on Wednesday, at the command office in Gombe in commemoration of 2019 Africa Road Safety Day/ World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Crash Victims. He said the theme for this year's commemoration, "Life is not a Car Part", was carefully chosen to enable people of the world to reflect on the sanctity of life and the fact that once taken can't be replaced.

"Unlike the car parts that are replaceable. Nations are simultaneously organizing events to promote the theme. Let me draw attention to the plight of Road Traffic Crash victims as well as the agony of dependents of such victims, whether living or death.

" In our dear state Gombe state, our command has constantly reminded government and individuals, including groups, to take decisive actions against road traffic crashes. From January to date, about 269 crashes have occurred, 134 deaths and 794 injured. This is unacceptable and we must collectively say No to this" he said.

Representatives of the commissioner of transportation and National Union of Road Transport workers noted their delights as they pledged to contribute to the safety of the Gombe road.

In a separate reaction the secretary to the state government prof. Ibrahim Njodi, also tasked Gombe motorists to respect road signs saying that as a special marshal he respects road signs and traffic laws.
