WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR?

Emefiele charged

Emefiele is standing trial on two counts of possessing a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a license.

The PUNCH reports that the Department of State Services had on July 13, 2023, filed a two-count of illegal processions of firearm and ammunition against the suspended CBN governor.

The DSS in the charge sheet accused Emefiele of possessing a single-barrelled shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a license.

In the second count, the service charged him with illegally possessing 23 rounds of live ammunition (cartridges) without a license. The offence is also said to be contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b)(il) of the same Act.

Court rejects FG’s objection, takes Emefiele’s bail application

Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos State earlier rejected the claim by the Federal Government that it is yet to receive a copy of the bail application filed by the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, in his alleged gun possession trial.

The judge held that there was evidence that the government had been served.

The bail application was filed by Emefiele’s lawyers, led by Joseph B. Daudu, SAN.

Daudu had urged the court to hear the defendant’s application seeking bail on self-recognition, noting that his client had fulfilled all the conditions necessary to make the application ripe for hearing.
