Ganduje extends Kano lockdown by seven days

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano has extended the lockdown of the state by one week to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

This is coming after the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, announced that the state recorded 64 new cases of COVID-19, taking the tally to a total of 666 cases.

The state commissioner for information, Malam Muhammad Garba, who made the announcement said the decision was reached after due consultations with the federal government and key stakeholders in the health sector.

According to Garba, the decision was taken to prevent an indiscriminate person to person contacts.

Daily Trust reports that Garba acknowledged the consequences of the lockdown on residents and called for patience and support as the battle against the pandemic continues.

The people of Kano have been urged to continue to observe strict personal hygiene through regular hand washing, use of face masks and social distancing.

According to the Kano State Government, there are now 571 active cases, 63 recoveries and 32 deaths as a result of COVID-19 as of Tuesday morning.
