Muhammadu Sanusi II, 14th Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, 14th Emir of Kano

Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Monday, appointed Emir Sanusi, as the pioneer Chairman of the new State Council of Emirs for a period of two years.

The announcement has finally put to rest speculations about who Governor Ganduje will appoint as the Chairman of the Emirate Council.

However, it should be recalled that the Governor, in a recent television interview, disclosed that he will soon appoint a Chairman for the State Council of Emirs.

During the interview, Ganduje, pointed out that the law empowers him to appoint who becomes the Chairman of the State Council of Emirs, as the central council for the five first-class Emirs, apart from their individual Emirates across the Emirate Councils.

Also, Ganduje, in an earlier press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwa, restated that the reason behind the creation of four additional first-class Emirs, was that they were in existence in the past, adding that, it was the people, who yearned for it, so as not only to facilitate but fast track the socio-economic development of their respective communities.

"There was a similar demand, during the reign of the late former governor of the old Kano State, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Rimi, recalling that, at that time, the process for the creation of the then new Emirates did not comply, with the provisions of the constitution.

However, the Governor assured that the newly created Emirate Councils have come to stay, adding that the process that led to their creation, adhered to due process."

"Participation of people in traditional governance for the overall development of the state plays an important role in the new dispensation of Emirate Councils newly accented by Law."

Also, the Governor, explained that, due to security concerns in the state, it elicited calls by the citizenry for the creation of more Emirates, emphasizing that, with additional Emirates, the network of securing the state would be strengthened, as well as more proactive.
