Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk breaks silence on Lookman interest

Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has confirmed the club's interest in Nigerian international Ademola Lookman.

The Turkish tactician disclosed that Galatasaray attempted to sign the reigning African Footballer of the Year on a loan deal this summer, but their bid was rejected by Atalanta.

“We were interested in Lookman,” Buruk told Now Spor.

“We thought we could set up a deal similar to Osimhen’s last year. But Atalanta were very clear: they would never accept to let him go on loan.”

Lookman's future remains uncertain following the closure of the summer transfer window at the end of last month.

Inter Milan, who were keen on securing the signature of the Super Eagles star, pulled out of the race after their initial bid of €45 million was rejected by La Dea.

With the transfer window still open in Turkey until September 12, a move to the Süper Lig remains feasible for the former Leicester City man.

Reports indicate that Fenerbahçe have also expressed interest in the 27-year-old.
