A video is making rounds of a man being stoned to death in Sokoto State, on Sunday, June 25, over an alleged blasphemous comment against the holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The incident is said to have occurred on Sunday morning, at an abattoir located within Sokoto city.

According to a source the victim named Usman Buda Mai Hanji, who is an indigene of the state was accused of talking down on the Prophet Muhammad, SAW.

In the video, the man was seen being stoned by several residents. With blood gushing from his face, as the man tried to escape he was struck with a stick, thereby falling to the ground.

The people who surrounded him were heard chanting "Allahu Akbar" meaning "God is Great", "kill him". One man was spotted pulling out a knife and approaching the victim, when the man fell to the ground as more stones struck him.

In a statement released, the state governor, Ahmed Aliyu, urged the people of the state to be law abiding at all times and desist from degrading the personality of Prophet Muhammad SAW.

He said this in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Malam Abubakar Bawa.
“I want to call on the people of Sokoto State to avoid taking laws into their hands, instead, they should report any alleged crime of blasphemy to the appropriate quarters for necessary action.

“Our religion does not encourage taking laws into one’s hand, so let us try to be good followers of our religion,” he said.

As the video hit the internet, some Nigerians took to social media to share their thoughts;

@Its_BashAli: All of you here are attacking islam . Has it occurred to u that they’re extremist In every religion even Christianity. When a mass shooting happens in the US no on blames Christianity but for here any small thing na Muslim. Condemn sokoto people but leave islam out of it.

@MrChimaobikanu: In this age and time? Why not let God fight his battle? This is why I'm very much at peace with my beliefs. Christians believe that God will fight not only your battles, but his as well. Traditional worshipers believe that if you do wrong, their deity will strike you. So why are some humans fighting for their almighty? Come to think of it, what is even "blasphemy"?

Abuja Podcaster: IN 2023 THIS IS STILL HAPPENING. WITH ALL THIS WOKENESS GOING AROUND. THIS IS VERY SAD.

@kadirayomide1: Don’t be mistaken
We muslims don’t behave like this in the Southern part
It’s only the Northern part
Ion know where they learn their own Quran from

@Rasckyy: I fear Religion more than anything in this life. I’m from a Muslim home btw. But trust me both Religion are trash. Religion is a disaster in Africa.

Dr Uzoma Ajegbo: When will they stop fighting for God and actually focus on fighting for a better life for themselves and their children? This is heartbreaking, especially considering this man can never get justice in this country. How do people keep doing this under record & none is prosecuted
