The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have called off the planned strike over the fuel subsidy removal.
This was made known by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila on the evening of Monday, June 6 after a meeting between the federal government and the unions at the presidential villa.
He noted that a joint committee made of the Federal Government, the TUC and the NLC will be formed to review the proposal of any wage increase or award and establish a framework and timeline for implementation.
“The Federal Government, the TUC and the NLC would review the World Bank Financed Cash transfer scheme and propose inclusion of low-income earners in the programme”, a communique signed after the meeting reads in part.
Earlier NLC and TUC had threatened to embark on a nationwide strike on Wednesday.
