A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obidike Chukwuebuka, has said that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara should be grateful to President Bola Tinubu for saving him from impeachment with his declaration of a State of Emergency.
On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, President Tinubu suspended Fubara his deputy, and members of the House of Representatives and appointed Admiral Ibokette Ibas as an administrator of state affairs in Rivers.
While some have condemned the move by President Bola Tinubu, others have applauded the declaration.
Chukwuebuka believes Fubara owes Tinubu a debt of gratitude for intervening on his behalf. According to him, the President’s move saved Fubara from impending impeachment proceedings.
He cited Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution, which states that “the President has the authority to declare a state of emergency, effectively suspending the powers of the Governor, Deputy Governor, and other state government organs.
This constitutional provision underscores the President’s emergency powers and the corresponding cessation of state government authority.”
He also pointed out that “although impeachment threats are scarce, President Tinubu’s involvement has significantly shaped Rivers State’s political landscape.
His commitment to promoting peace and stability was evident in a recent meeting with Governor Fubara and stakeholders, emphasizing unity and cooperation.
As the situation unfolds, Governor Fubara’s fate remains closely tied to President Tinubu’s influence, with potential far-reaching implications for the state’s politics.” Obidike concluded
