Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved free entry for supporters attending Rivers United’s decisive final match of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season against Katsina United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The move comes as Rivers United intensify preparations for what could become a historic final day in the title race, with the Port Harcourt club still in contention for a second NPFL crown.
Rivers United head coach Finidi George has already turned his attention fully to the league decider after his side secured a 2-0 victory over non-league side G12 FC in the Round of 64 of the President Federation Cup in Benin City on Tuesday.
The former Super Eagles winger expressed satisfaction with his players’ display in the cup tie but stressed that the club’s priority was now focused entirely on Sunday’s encounter against Katsina United.
“I’m quite happy with the performance of my players against academy side G12,” Finidi said.
“The game is gone and my focus is on the league match against Katsina United.”
Rivers United head into the final round of fixtures trailing league leaders Rangers International by one point and must defeat Katsina United while hoping Ikorodu City take points off the Enugu club in Lagos to secure the championship.
In a statement released by the club’s media department, Rivers State Government confirmed that stadium gates would be opened free of charge to supporters in an effort to mobilise massive backing for the Pride of Rivers.
The statement explained that Governor Fubara, through the Ministry of Sports, directed that fans across the state should be given the opportunity to witness what could become a memorable occasion for the club.
To ease transportation for supporters, the government also approved free shuttle buses from several designated points across Port Harcourt, with movement to the stadium scheduled ahead of the 4pm kick-off.
The pickup points include UST Convocation Arena, UNIPORT Market Square, Mile 3 by Ikoku Flyover, Mile one by Education Bus Stop, Sharks Stadium, Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Rumuomasi Market Junction and Rumuola by Aba Roundabout.
The club also appealed to football supporters across Rivers State to turn out in large numbers and create a strong atmosphere as Rivers United attempt to complete their title mission.
Victory for Rivers United, combined with a favourable result in Lagos, would see the Port Harcourt side crowned NPFL champions.
