Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday, September 30, departed the national team camp in Denmark after a fallout with head coach Jorge Jesus.
According to widespread reports, the 41-year-old refused to train ahead of Portugal's UEFA Nations League match against Denmark.
The Al Nassr captain is reportedly incensed by the manager's decision to bench him for the entirety of their last game against Norway.
The former Real Madrid forward left the team camp while manager Jorge Jesus was having his pre-match press conference and has since arrived in Madrid.
In this article, MyNigeria Sports looks at five times the Portuguese star has fallen out with his managers both at club level and the national team.
1. Erik ten Hag (Manchester United, 2022)
The most explosive of them all. Ronaldo refused to come on as a substitute against Tottenham and stormed down the tunnel before full time.
He followed it up with a bombshell in an interview with Piers Morgan where he declared not having any respect for the Dutch manager and felt "betrayed" by Manchester United.
2. Ralf Rangnick (Manchester United, 2022)
Before Ten Hag, there was Rangnick. Ronaldo, who was United's top scorer at the time, was visibly furious after being substituted in a game against Brentford, sparking tension with the interim boss that carried into his later criticisms.
3. Jose Mourinho (Real Madrid, 2010–2013)
A clash of two of football's biggest egos. The duo regularly exchanged words on the touchline, with Mourinho later admitting he sometimes told Ronaldo to relax even when things were going well, which the striker didn't always take kindly to.
4. Andrea Pirlo (Juventus, 2021)
Pirlo substituted Ronaldo during a Coppa Italia match, a decision that visibly frustrated the forward and forced the Juventus boss to publicly defend his call afterward.
5. Fernando Santos & Jorge Jesus (Portugal, 2022 & 2026)
Ronaldo's relationship with former Portugal boss Fernando Santos soured by the end of their spell together, most notably during a heated touchline exchange versus Serbia.
History has repeated itself in September 2026, after Ronaldo abandoned Portugal's training camp in Denmark after being left out entirely against Norway under current coach Jorge Jesus, despite the pair having won the Saudi Pro League together at Al-Nassr just months earlier.
