Four dance steps that rocked the Nigerian dancefloor and beyond

Below are a list of four dance steps and the songs that have rocked Nigeria in the past 10 years.

1.) Yahoozee

This dance was made popular by the song Yahoozee by Olu Maintain which is about glorifying internet fraud popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo. It involves dancing with both hands almost as if they are going over one's head.

2.) Shoki

This dance came almost a decade after Yahoozee rocked dancefloors across Nigeria. The dance was introduced by rapper Lil Kesh with his hit song titled Shoki which features Olamide and Davido. If you can curl yourself like a snake while you twist your hands in a funny manner, then you can call yourself a Shoki dancer. The dance was highly exported with Londoners rocking it and even US singer Missy Elliot throwing some Shoki in her music video.

3.) Shaku Shaku

Excited by the huge success that came with the export of Shoki, Nigerians decided to create another dance. Shaku Shaku came into the scene and was highly accepted globally. The dance which can be seen in Starboy music video Soco, rocked the whole of 2018. Almost every music video from Nigeria to Ghana and beyond had Shaku Shaku dance moves.

4.) Zanku Zanku

This dance is not something a novice can just jump at and start rocking because it requires not only skill but energy. Made popular by rapper Zlatan Ibile, this dance is what is currently rocking music videos and dancefloors in Nigeria and beyond.

While you are still mastering the Zanku dance which is currently reigning, just keep in mind that some fellow somewhere is working towards a new dance which will be greater than anything that ever rocked the dancefloor.
