Former Zamfara governor under investigation - EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on Monday said the commission is investigating a former governor of Zamfara state, over Ramadan feeding scam.

The commission has also recovered N99,861,000 money meant for the settlement of ad hoc staff during the 2019 general election from the INEC office in Kebbi State.

The head, Sokoto zonal office of the commission, Abdullahi Lawal, stated this in a rally to mark the world anti-corruption day held in Sokoto.

Lawal said since the establishment of the Sokoto zonal office in October 2018, it has received 236 petitions out of which 151 cases were under investigation, 20 cases filed in court while the commission had secured four convictions.

The EFCC boss added that from February this year to date the Commission has recovered N910,975,783.69, out of which N125, 548,000.00, was deposited with Central Bank of Nigeria for safekeeping.

"During this period the Commission has also recovered 36,000CFA, four exotic vehicles, 53 tricycles, five houses, two shops were under investigation while two vehicles, two houses were under interim and final forfeiture within the jurisdiction of the zonal office."

The zonal head explained that a contractor in Zamfara state was quizzed by the Commission for collecting N200billion since 2013 for digging 287 motorized boreholes but failed to execute the projects.
