Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Abdulaziz Gafasa, and two other principal officers of the house have resigned from their positions.

The speaker has reportedly concluded plans to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Gafasa tendered his resignation letter yesterday alongside majority leader, Kabiru Dashi, for unspecified reasons.

At the reconvening of plenary yesterday, the lawmakers unanimously nominated the Deputy Speaker, Hamisu Chidari (Makoda Constituency) as the new speaker.

Similarly, Zubairu Sumaila (Sumaila constituency) became the new deputy speaker, while Labaran Madari was returned as majority leader.

While speculation surrounding the sudden resignation of the speaker spread, a source told The Guardian that Gafasa was left with no option to save himself from impeachment.
