Reforms across Nigeria’s oil and gas sector have driven national crude oil production up by 600,000 barrels per day (bpd), pushing daily output from 1.2 million barrels to 1.8 million barrels, according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, disclosed the operational turnaround on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, during an executive energy session titled ‘Nigeria’s Reform Agenda: Competing for Energy Capital’ at the 2026 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) in the United Arab Emirates.
In a statement issued by NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the state-owned energy firm emphasized that the production surge reflects the legislative backing of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, improved fiscal incentives, and fortified joint-venture partnerships aimed at attracting global energy capital.
Addressing a panel moderated by John Defterios, Chairman (MENA) of APCO, Ojulari outlined the state oil firm's roadmap to reach a 2 million bpd output target by 2027 under the direct mandate of President Bola Tinubu.
"The figure of 1.8 million barrels per day is a stage in a journey towards our objective. We are concentrating on the basics, which are maintaining our infrastructure, protecting base operations and executing the projects that will take production higher," Ojulari stated.
