The first female National President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines And Agriculture, Iyalode Alaba Lawson, has urged the Federal Government to fix porous borders across the country.

Lawson knocked the government over the border closure policies, claiming that the organised private sector was not carried along before the borders were shut.

She spoke on Sunday in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, at a media parley, as part of activities marking her 70th birthday on January 18.

She said, “Our neighbours can be very nasty, using our borders being porous; what are we doing to that porous borders? And therefore, as stakeholders in the economy, they should have allowed us to rob minds together before closing that border. Now, they have closed the borders and our economy thrived, but there are some areas that have suffered, even our people at the boundary. It shouldn’t have been.

“But now that the borders have been reopened now and we need to block the porosity of that border.”

While speaking on her life at 70, the Iyalode of Yorubaland attributed successes she recorded to the “Grace of God.”
