Isaac Fayose, a social and political commentator, has extended a philanthropic gesture to the Nigerians most severely affected by NNPCL's price hike.

Fayose was captured in a video shared on his Instagram page on Thursday, October 10, presenting five thousand naira to each of the drivers waiting in the long queue in Abuja.

"We are here to support our people at the petrol station. Look at the long queue due to the increased petrol prices. We are giving N5K to people whose cars are not clean, like Uber and taxi drivers, to show our support," he said as he handed out the money to the drivers.

On Wednesday, October 9, Nigerians woke up to a change in pump prices in Lagos and Abuja. Filling stations owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) have raised the price of fuel.

The product, which previously sold for N897 in Abuja, now sells for N1,030.

A Daily Trust correspondent who visited an NNPC outlet in Maitama observed long lines of motorists waiting to purchase fuel amidst complaints.

In Lagos, fuel that previously sold for N885 per liter is now being sold for N998, also causing long lines.

This change comes 24 hours after Daily Trust reported a likely increase in pump prices due to NNPCL's exit as a middleman in the Dangote Refinery purchase deal.
