Traders on Olatunde Onimole Street, near Bakery Bus Stop in Surulere, Lagos, were left counting their losses after fire swept through two shops, destroying furniture, provisions and other goods worth millions of naira.

According to a report by guardian.ng, the shops, located at No. 19 Olatunde Onimole Street, were gutted by an early-morning blaze, prompting a swift response from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Team, the LRT Cobra Team, working alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA paramedics, the Nigeria Police and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps.

The joint operation brought the fire under control before it could spread further, though the two shops were completely razed. No death or injury was recorded.

In a separate incident, the LRT Tiger Squad at C3 responded to a road traffic accident on the Third Mainland Bridge, inward Obalende, after a yellow commercial bus reportedly overturned following a tyre burst.

LASEMA paramedics and LASAMBUS personnel attended to victims at the scene, providing immediate medical care before the team concluded operations and returned to base.

Also on the day, the LRT Lion Squad, working with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in Imota, responded to a fire outbreak at Adamo Bus Stop, Ikorodu. Preliminary findings suggest the fire started from an electrical spark that ignited the roof of a hairdressing shop before spreading to adjoining shops.

Three shops were affected, with goods and property worth millions of naira destroyed, though no life was lost and no injury was recorded. Firefighters brought the blaze under control and carried out dampening-down operations to prevent re-ignition.

Separately, at about 6:09 a.m., the LRT Alpha Eagle Team responded to a tanker breakdown on Ilupeju Road, inward Cappa, after an empty tanker with an unknown registration number developed a mechanical fault that obstructed traffic.

With support from the Nigeria Police and LASEMA's recovery equipment, the tanker was successfully removed and taken to a lay-by, restoring normal traffic flow.

Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency continues to demonstrate operational efficiency and effective inter-agency coordination through prompt emergency responses across the state.

He urged residents to prioritise vehicle maintenance, comply with electrical safety standards, and promptly report emergencies via LASEMA's toll-free lines, 767 and 112.
