Fire guts Ondo INEC office, over 5000 card readers destroyed

The Ondo State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is engulfed in flames.

Daily Posts reports that the fire outbreak started at 8:45pm at the ICT unit of the commission is yet to be contained as at press time.

More than 5000 card readers have been reported to be destroyed due to the inferno.

With the cause of the outbreak unknown, men of the fire service are yet to arrive at the scene. The Ondo State fire service is less than 500 meters from the commission.

The commission is situated in Alagbaka area of Akure, the state capital.

The governorship election in the state had been scheduled for October 10, 2020 between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Mr. Eyitayo Jegede and incumbent and representative of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Rotimi Akeredolu.
