Newly appointed Super Eagles head coach Finidi George has reportedly turned down the Nigeria Football Federation's proposed candidates for the role of assistant coach.

Finidi, who was appointed as the new gaffer for the 2023 AFCON finalists a week ago, was informed that he would have the freedom to choose his own assistants to avoid any potential conflicts within the coaching staff.

According to reports, the NFF recommended three candidates, namely Emmanuel Amunike, Daniel Amokachi, and Michael Nsien. However, he declined these recommendations.

Nsien, who currently coaches the United States U-21 team was strongly recommended by the federation.

Finidi George is scheduled to meet with the NFF hierarchy this week before officially commencing his duties as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.

The appointment of an assistant coach for the team is reportedly a top priority on the agenda.
