Interim Super Eagles head coach Finidi George has provided some insights into the factors contributing to his team's loss against Mali on Tuesday, March 26th.

The Eagles of Mali soared higher above the Super Eagles in an encounter many fans tipped the latter to secure a comfortable win.

Goals from youngster El Bilal Toure and Brest star Kamory Doumbia were enough to seal a convincing win for the Malians.

It was the Eagles' first win against Nigeria in 49 years.

Sharing his thoughts after the game, the 52-year-old noted that he would have loved a different result.

He however commended the team's performance in the two friendlies.

"This is a team that possesses the ball very well, but the absence of our injured strikers forced us to adopt a wider approach. Despite our aggressive play, we were unable to capitalise. As we know, football ultimately revolves around winning."

"Winning one match and losing another, yet not being outplayed in either, brings me pride as the coach of the Super Eagles. While I would have preferred a different outcome in this match, the players' performances are commendable."

Finidi George is among the candidates rumoured to take over the vacant Super Eagles coaching job after Jose Peseiro left the role earlier this month.

The Super Eagles will return to action in the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa in the next international break in June.
