Female driver crushes pregnant woman and two other passengers in Lagos

A female driver has killed three passengers, including a pregnant woman, and a girl in Agege.

On Saturday, October 15, 2022, at around 4 o'clock, a woman's automobile collided with a tricycle carrying passengers toward Agege on Iju-Ishaga Road.

All of the passengers, including an elderly woman, perished, while the tricycle rider was hurt and taken to the hospital according to Punch reports.

Mayokun Oluwadara, an eyewitness, reported that commuters had yelled at the driver to slow down.

"A woman was driving a private car at top speed. People were shouting at her to slow down. The area is usually clumsy with people and traffic. Unfortunately, that road was clear that day and the woman saw it as an opportunity to race through. She hit the tricycle from behind," he narrated.

Oluwadara claimed that good Samaritans hurried the young girl and the pregnant woman to the hospital in the hopes that they would be saved.

"People were very particular about the pregnant woman and the small girl because of the pregnancy and the girl’s age. They were evacuated immediately. Some people said the pregnant woman and the girl might still be breathing. But they were dead because some of us saw that they were not moving at all,” he added.

Further information revealed that after the collision, the female driver rushed off in the direction of the Agege Underbridge.

Residents reportedly told nearby park managers to tell the automobile to halt. At the Agege Underbridge, she was eventually apprehended and given to the police.

Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, acknowledged the occurrence but said that the police have a record of one passenger who passed away immediately.
