Fake priest convicted in Abuja

A fake priest has been convicted by a high court in Abuja.

Jacob Samuel was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a one-count charge of cheating.

The convict pleaded guilty after he was arraigned before Justice J.O. Onwuegbuzie for falsely representing himself as a genuine priest and inducing one Rebecca into delivering to him a total sum of N103,000.

Samuel's counsel, M.K Agbontien pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy as the defendant was a first-time offender and had given back the proceeds of crime.

Samuel was sentenced by the court to six months imprisonment with an option of a N50,000 fine.
