FUTA names auditorium after Awolowo

The management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure on Friday named the main auditorium of the institution after the first Premier of the old Western Region, late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

The development was part of the activities to mark 40th anniversary and convocation ceremonies of the University.

Many members of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere were in attendance at the ceremony. They included the leader of the group, Chief Reuben Fasoranti; a former Secretary General of the association, Basorun Sehinde Arogbofa among others.

Speaking on the gesture, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Joseph Fuwape said the gesture was part of the ways to honour and recognise the contributions of late Awolowo to the development of education in Nigeria .

He said, “Many of this is still coming, we will continue to honour our heros who have contributed to the development of education in Nigeria. We will continue to honor those who have made efforts at different levels to the development of our institution and those who have contributed to the betterment of Nigeria.”

In his response, the Afenifere leader, Chief Fasoranti congratulated the University on its 40th anniversary, saying the management of FUTA had taken a bold step in the right direction for naming the building after the late sage .

Fasoranti wished the graduating students the best as they sojourn into another phase of life.

Earlier, the vice chancellor had stated that the developmental projects were still ongoing at both temporary and permanent sites of the institution.
