The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, says with most government activities now moved online, cyber-attacks have grown in number, sophistication and impact.

He spoke in Abuja Wednesday at the fifth cyber security conference.

“After the coronavirus, we moved a lot of our activities online and cyber-attacks have grown in number, sophistication and impact,” he said.

He said the cost of cybercrime had exceeded $6trn globally and was projected to reach $10trn by 2025.

“We need to secure the cyberspace to build confidence in our citizens to use these services,” he said.

President, Cyber Security Association of Nigeria (CESAN), Remi Afon, urged the Federal Government to increase investment in ICT to prevent terror attacks on civilians.

He said with terrorist making use of mobile phones, the internet and other electronic media to launch attacks, an effective counter-surveillance programme by the government would “increase the chance of intervening or detecting a threat as soon as possible.”
