The Federal Government has dismissed conditions the leader of the indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu submitted prior to the resumption of his trial.

At Kanu’s hearing at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the detained IPOB leader agreed to accelerate prosecution of the charges levelled against him on the grounds that his conditions are met.

Lawyer for the defendant, Aloy Ejimakor, listed three conditions that must be met before the trial begins.

The proscribed leader demanded that bail be granted earlier to be restored to enable him prepare for his defense, adding that the bail was revoked based on a false and fraudulent claim of the Federal Government.

Kanu also demanded that the arrest warrant issued against him based on allegations by the government that he jumped bail and escaped out of the country be set aside.

Another condition was that his lawyer be granted unrestricted access to him as required by law.

According to Kanu, he is willing to face an accelerated trial once the conditions are met.

However, the Federal Government through its counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, asked the court to dismiss the conditions on the ground that they are frivolous, vexatious, irritating and baseless.

Awomolo responding to Kanu's bail application, said that the court had earlier rejected the bail and as a result the court cannot overrule itself.

Adding that the only option is for the detained leader to challenge the rejected bail request at the Court of Appeal.
