The federal government on Thursday, January 21 launched an e-ticketing solution to ease commuting for passengers using the Abuja-Kaduna train stations.

The move followed numerous complaints by commuters on ticket racketeering by corrupt officials of the Nigeria Railway Corporation.

The minister of transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi, launched the e-ticketing online solution held virtually in his office in Abuja, adding that the initiative marks the beginning of automation of ticket sales in all major stations in the Abuja-Kaduna train service.

According to him, the move is in line with global world best practices and will enhance efficiency, save time and promote accountability while also reducing leakage and promoting economic growth.

Legit.ng gathered that the e-ticketing solution after a successful pilot program on the day of the launch, issued 25,000 tickets online via web on www.nrc.tps.ng. On his Twitter page, Amaechi listed the three ways to book the tickets.

They are: 1. Mobile app. 2. Website. 3. POS or cash at the station. All automated.

He added that a validator is used to scan tickets' barcode before passengers board the train, adding that self-service ticket vending machines at the stations would soon be provided.
