A viral story of the purported 114% increase in the salary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and elected federal and state political office holders and judicial officers, circulated on the internet in June.

Daily Trust reported on Wednesday, June 21, that the federal government, with the aid of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), has approved a 114% salary increase for all elected public office holders in the West African nation.

Based on this, Dubawa, a fact-checking platform, ran a fact-check.

While it is true that the commission has proposed a 114% increase, the decision is subject to approval from the executive and the legislature — which is yet to be formed.

Christian Nwachukwu, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of RMAFC, also clarified that President Tinubu is yet to approve the review, according to Dubawa.

The report by Daily Trust is, therefore, inaccurate and misleading.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a list of 27 names of “new appointees and some new ministries” allegedly made by President Bola Tinubu was found to be false.

As reported by Africa Check, the list which has now been confirmed to be false, has been reposted on other Facebook pages, with some claiming that President Tinubu has abolished certain ministerial offices.

Legit.ng also reported that a Twitter user, @PIDOMNIGERIA, claimed that Tinubu was hospitalised on Monday, March 13, and is in critical condition.

However, findings by Dubawa found the claim to be incorrect.

In a piece of related news, Legit.ng reported that Lamidi Apapa, the factional leader of the Labour Party (LP), debunked the rumour making round on social media that Tinubu is sponsoring him to cause problems in the party.

Apapa made the denial in reaction to the growing controversies about the leadership of the LP that was currently factionalized between Julius Abure and Lamidi Apapa.
