The Federal Government has extended the ban on all flights for an additional four weeks.

This is according to the Presidential Task Force on COVID–19.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha who made this announcement noted that the PTF was not happy with the way Nigerians disregarded the social distancing rules.

Therefore, the decision to extend the ban on all flights is to give them ample time to consider how safe it is for flights to operate in the midst of the disregard of the laid own rules.

Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika revealed that the airlines were losing N17bn as a result of the ban. He explained that a few tests need to be conducted during this ban to allow the airlines slowly return to speed.

"When we will bring airlines into service, we would make sure they are airworthy same as the pilots who fly the airlines. They have a few certifications we want them to conform to and ensure that they are safe to operate," the Minister expressed.
