Extend urgency of rescuing Odumosu’s wife to ordinary Nigerians - Obi tells police

Peter Obi Peter Obi

Former Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on the Nigeria Police Force to apply the same urgency in rescuing Mrs Odumosu as they would for any other Nigerian.

Obi said this following the successful rescue of Folashade Odumosu, the wife of retired Assistant Inspector General Hakeem Odumosu.

Reports indicated that on January 16, 2025, at 9:45 pm, four masked gunmen abducted Mrs. Odumosu from her Lexus Jeep outside her residence in Arepo, Ogun State.

A week later, she was rescued by the police, who also recovered N10 million in ransom and ammunition, while some of the kidnappers were neutralised.

Peter Obi commended the police force for their quick response and professionalism.

Taking to his X page, Obi wrote, “I commend the Nigeria Police for their swift and effective response in rescuing Mrs. Folashade Odumusu, the wife of retired AIG Hakeem Odumusu, who was kidnapped just a few days ago.

“The operation, conducted within a week, highlights their capacity to act decisively when motivated.

“What stands out is the precision with which the rescue mission was executed. It not only led to the safe release of the victim, unharmed, but also resulted in the neutralisation of some kidnappers, the recovery of weapons, and the retrieval of the ransom. Such a professional outcome deserves high praise.”

The former Anambra governor pointed out that their recent rescue shows that Nigeria’s law enforcement is capable of effectively fighting crime effectively with proper leadership, motivation and support.

Obi said, “While celebrating this laudable achievement, I urge the Nigeria Police to extend the same level of urgency and professionalism to cases involving everyday Nigerians – those whose plights are often underreported or ignored. Many innocent citizens remain victims of abduction, languishing in captivity without rescue efforts reaching them.

“This successful operation is a testament to the possibilities that lie within our security architecture when it is properly managed and prioritised. It demonstrates that, even in the face of challenges, a new Nigeria is truly POssible.”
