Ex Rangers star tells club to resign Balogun

Former Glasgow Rangers striker, Ally McCoist has urged the Scottish giants to resign Nigerian international, Leon Balogun.

The 34-year-old left the club on June 3 after his contract ran out.

Balogun spent two seasons at the Ibrox Stadium after joining the Gers from Wigan in 2020.

McCoist disclosed his desire to see the Super Eagles defender return to the club following Rangers 2-2 draw against PSV in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers on Tuesday, August 16.

The ex-Striker believes that Leon Balogun's presence in defence could have made a difference in the game.

“I mentioned that before the first goal, Rangers looked small,” McCoist said as quoted by Daily Record.

“PSV looked big, and I thought set plays were going to be important. James [Sands] isn’t a natural centre-back, would Balogun have made a difference?

“He’s sitting up in the stands watching Rangers on Saturday, I’m not sure I would have let him go. Souttar has injuries, you know, Helander, obviously.

“Perhaps there is [a case to bring Balogun back], it’s not hindsight, I was surprised to see him go, I really was. I tell you what, we could have done with him tonight. He’s got height, he’s got a presence, and scored goals in Europe.”

Balogun made 65 appearances for Rangers. He won the Scottish League and the Scottish League Cup.

He recently visited the Ibrox Stadium to support his former side during their Champions League play-off game against Belgian club Union.
