As a result of the deadly coronavirus pandemic, the government of Ethiopia has restored internet services to the western parts of the country.

The restoration comes three months after the initial cut off, an attempt to help the government in the fight against the pandemic that has affected 23 people in the country.

Due to various attacks on government officials, amidst other violences, internet was cut off from the western Oromia internet was cut off, while some areas had no phone.

Armed members of Ethiopia’s Oromo ethnic group have for months been attacking government officials and clashing with the security forces.

University students from the Amhara ethnic group have been kidnapped.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who is himself Oromo, has faced mounting opposition from Oromo activists as well as members of other ethnic groups.
