Kayode Yahaya, coach of bronze medalist, Ese Brume says he is excited to see her [Brume] win at the Tokyo Olympics.

Ese Brume clinched the bronze medal after with a 6.97m leap in the Final of Women’s Long jump event Tuesday, August 2.

He told Brila.net that he hopes the victory puts a smile on the faces of Nigerians.

“I’m very excited that all of the hard work eventually paid off, I don’t know if that will wipe the tear off the face of Nigerians, but if but it does, we are very grateful to God and very thankful that people get excited because of us.”

“So far, I’ve not been reading great news in the media. I hope it put smiles on their face and everything works out fine for them.” He told brila.net

Ese Brume had the best start in the final, but Malaika Mihambo of Germany fought from behind to clinch the gold with her final jump of 7.00m, while 2012 Champion Britney Reese of the USA also snatched the silver medal, Brila.net said.

Kayode Yahaya, however, dismissed the claims that Brume allowed the gold to slip away from her.

“Brume is not jumping against Children or amateurs. She’s jumping against people who are better than her and have more experience, rudiments, necessary scientific training dietician, medical and all that.”

“So, she’s didn’t go back, the opponents step up and sometimes, you can only go as far as the strength can take you,” he told Brila.net.
