Enugu State has cautioned residents of areas designated as probable flood risk areas to relocate.

This followed the 2020 Annual Flood forecast of Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NHISA).

NHISA said about 102 councils in 28 states fall within probable risk areas.

Executive Secretary of Enugu State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Mrs Nkechi Eneh said about 10 councils would probably be affected.

She named these councils as likely to be affected:

1. Enugu East

2. Udi

3. Nsukka

4. Enugu North

5. Enugu South

6. Oji River

7. Igbo-Etiti

8. Ezeagu

9. Uzo Uwani

10. Nkanu East

“We we have requested local government administrators in the affected areas to hold sensitisation campaigns targeting community members, opinion leaders, traditional leaders, heads of women groups, town union executives, market union leaders and others, who will inform the villages.”

Eneh appealed to farmers to harvest their produce early to avoid losses.
