Enugu police arrest two interstate kidnapping suspects

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, mspsp, has reiterated the Command’s resolve not to relent in ridding the State of unrepentant criminal elements. He stated this following the arrest of two suspected interstate kidnapping and armed robbery suspects by operatives attached to the Udenu Police Division, in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, and the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, motorcycles, and other incriminating exhibits.

The suspects, identified as Mohammed Hassan (male, aged 28) and Aminu Usman (male, aged 26), both of Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, were arrested on 14th May 2026, at about 1:20 p.m., at Amutenyi, Obollo-Afor, Udenu LGA of Enugu State.

Recovered from the suspects were one Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of .9mm live ammunition, three suspected snatched motorcycles, one mobile phone, suspected charms, one ATM card, phone, a bunch of keys, and a cash sum of Four Thousand Seven Hundred Naira (₦4,700.00).

Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects are members of an interstate kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate allegedly involved in kidnapping and motorcycle snatching operations along the border communities between Enugu and Benue States.

Efforts are ongoing to arrest their accomplices, while the suspects will be arraigned upon the conclusion of investigations.

CP Giwa commended the operatives and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group for the successful operation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating violent crimes across the State. He also urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and continue to provide credible and timely information to security agencies.
