After over two weeks of continuous protests, the leadership of the National Assembly has pleaded with protesters to suspend the ongoing #EndSARS protests.

According to ThisDay, president of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, made the appeal on Sunday, October 18, after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to them, the protests should stop since the Nigerian government has accepted the demands listed by the youth protesters.

Lawan said the Nigerian government needs time and a conducive environment to implement what the protesters are asking for just as he gave the assurance that the National Assembly will play its required roles on the issues, reports ThisDay.

The Senate president whose statement was also reported by The Nation said the protest will hurt the country's economy if it is allowed to continue.

He said the blocking of roads by the protesters will not only adversely affect the economy but also lead to chaos.

Also speaking, Gbajabiamila said President Buhari has accepted "absolutely everything that Nigerians asked for".

He urged the youths to suspend the protest and resume "if nothing happens in two weeks".

Gbajabiamila explained that some of the demands by the protesters were policy matters which will not happen overnight.
