EndSARS: IPAC warns against military deployment

The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) of Nigeria has urged the Federal Government to reverse its decision on the deployment of the military to disperse the nationwide #EndSARS protests.

The acting president of IPAC, Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu, said on Tuesday in Abuja that the Nigeria Police and not the military, remained the agency saddled with the responsibility of attending to Nigerians during protests.

“The Inter Party Advisory Council of Nigeria is deeply concerned over the activities of hoodlums who continue to infiltrate the peaceful protests to undermine its very essence and cause harm to the Nigerian society.

“We call on the inspector general of police to remain vigilant and focused on the roles of officers and men deployed to protect Nigerians, as they exercise their rights during the protests,” IPAC said.

The political parties said more than ever before, the services of the Nigerian military are needed in the northeastern part of the country to tackle the menace of the ravaging Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.

According to them, Nigerians have a constitutionally guaranteed right to freely assemble and express themselves and such inalienable rights must be protected by law enforcement agencies.

The council urged the federal government to, as a matter of urgency, look into the demands of Nigerians, which remain the subject matter of the lawful protests, and provide immediate solutions.
