Emre Can opens up on why he rejected United

Former Juventus midfielder, Emre Can, has revealed the reason he turned down interest from Manchester United during the January transfer window.

Can joined Borrusia Dortmund on a four-year deal with Dortmund, 18 months after departing Anfield for Turin for a reported €25m deal.

The former Liverpool player stated that his affiliation with the Reds was the main reason he didn't consider the move to Old Trafford.

Can played 166 games for Liverpool between 2014 and 2018 before deciding to join Juventus on a free transfer.

Having endured a difficult spell with the Old Lady, Can claims he was not short of offers and he was wanted by Liverpool's old foes United, including two other Premier League sides.

He told Kicker – via the Daily Mail: "I had three Premier League deals alone, including one from Manchester United.

"But I didn't think about that for a second because of my Liverpool past."

The German would have joined the likes of Phil Chisnell, Peter Beardsley, Paul Ince and Michael Owen on the list of players to have played for the bitter rivals if he had joined Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men. [Liverpool Echo]
