Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank Of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu has weighed in on the tenure of Godwin Emefiele as Central Bank Governor.

Morgalu in an interview on Arise TV on Thursday, June 22 said Emefiele was not suitable for the role of CBN governor.

Emefiele is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for “some investigative reasons”.

The embattled Governor has been in the custody of the service for more than 3 weeks.

"If you look at his performance as the Governor of the Central Bank and my view of his performance has been on record even when he was governor I had the highest minimal regard for his performance and suitability for the role," Moghalu said.

He continued: "And we have seen the consequences and we have to be careful in appointing people to such sensitive roles. When politicians make these decisions and they are just trying to achieve some self-interest for a particular time and they are not weighing in carefully the consequence for the nation."

"I think that there are lessons to be learned from what we have seen over the past several years. The performance on his core mandate has not been very impressive and you cannot substitute the political mandate for the statutory mandate of the central bank."
