Emefiele in DSS custody after being suspended by Tinubu

Following the suspension of Godwin Emefiele it has been reported that the Central Bank of Nigeria is in the custody of the Department of State Service.

A director in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey announced the suspension on Friday night, June 9.

According to him, the suspension is part of a planned reform of the financial sector.

Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi has now been appointed as the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Daily Trust claims a source around the presidency said Emefiele was suspended because of his role in naira swap and cashless policy that almost truncated the conduct of the 2023 general elections.

Confirming the suspension, a source said; “Yes, he is here already undergoing interrogation.”
