Electronic transmission of election results excites S/East APC chieftain

Chief Hycienth Ngwu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Southeast, says electronic transmission of election results shows democracy is really progressing in Nigeria.

The Senate on Tuesday rescinded its earlier decision against electronic transmission of election results by INEC.

Ngwu, former Southeast Public Secretary of APC, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Wednesday that the endorsement of electronic transmission of election results “is healthy and progressive in its entirety’’.

He said the endorsement would lead to further innovations in the electoral system.

“This action has proven that our democracy is really progressing well.

“The latest decision is supported by the majority of the people, the real owners of power.

“The Senate is truly being the representative of the people by this action.

“It is an assurance that our votes will now count more than before. And, it will help to deepen our democracy,’’ he said.

Ngwu expressed optimism that President Muhammadu Buhari would give his assent to it.
