The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, says some Nigerians have asked him to "slow down" on improvements to electricity supply, following complaints that their freezers are now working continuously.

According to a report by dailypost.ng, peaking at the commissioning of a 3-megawatt solar hybrid power project at the University of Abuja, Tegbe said he had been receiving feedback from electricity consumers following noticeable improvements in supply across parts of the country.

"Places that didn't have light at all for three months are now having 18 hours light. Some areas called me to say, look, I should slow down, that everything in their freezer is freezing. That is what a freezer is meant to do. Let it freeze the food that needs to be frozen," he said.

According to the minister, he had earlier promised Nigerians would begin to see noticeable improvements in electricity supply within three to six months.

While acknowledging the challenges still facing the power sector, Tegbe noted that some of the country's electricity infrastructure is more than 40 years

old. He also raised concerns about the vandalism of critical power infrastructure, disclosing that three major transmission towers in Birnin Kebbi had recently been brought down by vandals.
