Election: Police in Anambra take delivery of anti-riot equipment

The Anambra State Police Command said it has taken delivery of arms and ammunition from the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, in preparation for Saturday’s House of Assembly election in the state.

While commending the IGP for the weapons, the police said the anti-riot equipment and materials are for the maintenance of law and order during the poll.

The state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, made this known in a statement on Friday on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police (election), Aderemi Adeoye.

The command, therefore, warned criminal elements and thugs to shelve plans of causing any breakdown of law and order before, during, and after the elections in the state.

Ikenga also stated that AIG Rudolf Obe Echebi had assumed duty as the AIG Election for Anambra and Enugu commands which make up the Zone 13 with headquarters at Ukpo Dunukofia LGA of Anambra State.

He said the AIG arrived on Thursday, March 16, 2023 and was received by senior officers at the Zonal headquarters in Ukpo.

According to Ikenga, the AIG has also visited the headquarters of the State Police Command where he reviewed security arrangements for the state House of Assembly election and he has proceeded to Enugu State Command in continuation of his assignment.

“The Commissioner of Police (election) for the sate briefed the AIG on programmes lined up to carry all stakeholders along to ensure peace, especially after the election.

“Other senior officers deployed in Anambra for the election include DCP Johnson Adenola – Anambra South; DCP Polycarp Emeka – Anambra Central and DCP Yusuf Ajape – Anambra North Senatorial Districts respectively,” the statement added.
