The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said some people are urging former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to go and make peace with President Bola Tinubu.
El-Rufai is currently in custody and facing charges in court following an interview in which he said he had access to the National Security Adviser's phone conversation.
Reacting to the several court adjournments, which have kept El-Rufai in custody, Atiku's aide, Paul Ibe, opined that Tinubu intends to keep the former governor in custody until after the 2027 general elections.
He wrote on X, "Yesterday marked day 126 of the abduction and detention of Mallam Nasir el-Rufai @elrufai, former Governor of Kaduna State and chieftain of the @ADCNig. By now, it should be clear to all, irrespective of political leaning, that the Tinubu-led APC administration is harassing and intimidating el-Rufai for having parted ways with the APC.
"The sham trial of the ADC chieftain is politically motivated. We've gathered from those asking him to go and make "peace" (whatever that means) with President Bola Tinubu, because he (Tinubu) is allegedly focused on keeping him until after the 2027 elections. The adjournment of his case to September appears to confirm this.
"Meanwhile, the conditions of the bail granted to el-Rufai is too punitive and meant to keep him perpetually in detention. In fact, the bail conditions only encourage civil servants to loot maximally and acquire assets and properties at all costs while in service. How do they expect a civil servant to be able to meet the stringent bail conditions and not receive an invitation from the anti-corruption agencies? Well-meaning Nigerians and the international community cannot afford to be aloof to the clampdown on opposition leaders in Nigeria. It is a ticking time bomb. #FreeNasirElrufai unconditionally immediately."
