Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central has explained that he described former Governor Nasir El-Rufai as a divisive figure following his ministerial nomination.

Recall that Sani in a Channels TV interview had opined that President Bola Tinubu invited trouble to his government by bringing Nasir El-Rufai into his administration as a minister.

According to the former lawmaker, El-Rufai would cause conflict between Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as he allegedly did during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Explaining his earlier comment, the PDP Chieftain said it was unfortunate that Tinubu would bring "such a person when he has promised that his government will be a clean break from the past".

He stressed that El-Rufai has demonstrated as Governor that he can be divisive because he wasn't fair to a section of the state following his during his term in office.

"Somebody like El-Rufai, it is unfortunate that Tinubu will bring such a person when he has promised that his government will be a clean break from the past and that the people he would bring are men of competence, integrity, and honor. There are countries in the world where what you say can deny you a position in life, Sani told Dr. Abati in the interview on the morning show monitored by MyNigeria on Wednesday, August 2.

He continued: "When I said El-Rufai is a divisive figure, he has demonstrated that in the past as Governor of Kaduna State. For the eight years he as ruled, he has not been fair to sections of the state. He has proven to be on side, one that is only about his interest, one that is all about promoting ethnic and religious bigotry."

"Secondly, as a governor, he has not been able to tackle and handle diversity very well. He failed in that aspect of it. and when you go back, he has a history of disobeying court orders and have not respect for the rule of law."
