Nigerian rapper and socio-political critic Eedris Abdulkareem has sparked fresh debate online after announcing that both his Facebook and Instagram accounts were taken down shortly after the release of his new track, "Open Letter to Donald Trump."

The veteran artiste revealed on Sunday, November 30, that he suddenly lost access to the two platforms, claiming he had been locked out since the political song went public.

After close observation, it was confirmed that the pages were no longer accessible, although Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has not provided any official explanation for the action.

Eedris, who is known for boldly confronting Nigeria’s leadership in his music, said he received no prior notice and has no information on how long the suspension will last.

His new track, released under Lakreem Entertainment, uses the format of a message to U.S. President Donald Trump but mainly targets corruption, insecurity, and governance failures in Nigeria.

Earlier in April 2025, the National Broadcasting Commission banned his song "Tell Your Papa" over alleged violations of broadcast regulations.

The disappearance of his accounts has triggered widespread reactions from Nigerians, with many questioning whether the timing of Meta’s action suggests censorship or a clampdown on political expression.

@layinosabi___"See let’s be honest, if Meta suspended his accounts, it’s not because he ‘spoke truth to power.’ Meta doesn’t care about Nigerian politics that much. It’s probably algorithm flags or mass reports. But framing it as ‘censorship’ always sells. Everytime"

@mrgeorgeonx___"Eedris has always been fearless, and this suspension only proves that truth still shakes the system. When an artist uses his voice to spotlight corruption, insecurity, and the suffering of ordinary Nigerians, censoring him won’t silence the message, it only amplifies it. Whether they suspend his accounts or ban his songs, the issues he’s speaking about remains. Respect to Eedris for staying consistent and standing on the side of the people."

@SmartTrollHQ___"If your music didn’t shake tables, Meta wouldn’t touch your accounts. This just proves ‘Open Letter to Donald Trump’ is hitting nerves in high places. Nigeria’s truth is too raw for the algorithm."

@buildwithjulius___"@instablog9ja Eedris Abdulkareem silenced on FB/IG over anti-corruption Trump “letter”? Naija’s voice of truth getting censored again – free speech na joke now? Stand with the Jaga Jaga king! 🇳🇬"

@Africaanaah__"You have to understand that Meta is a policing platform that is malleable to the demands of the state and is always on standby to hunt anyone that attacks the masters"
