Edun: Nigeria govt snubs Uzoka-Anete as Cardoso leads country’s delegation to World Bank-IMF meeting

The Nigerian government has snubbed the country’s minister of state for finance, Doris Uzoka-Anete, as Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Olayemi Cardoso leads the nation’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund meeting in Washington, DC, United States of America.

This follows the confirmation by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga on Sunday that the country’s minister of finance, Wale Edun, is ill and indisposed.

Onanuga on Sunday announced that Cardoso, instead of Uzoka-Anete, would be leader of Nigeria’s delegation to the annual meeting on Monday.

Meanwhile, the delegation is comprised of Uzoka-Anete, who would have led the country’s team according to the requisite protocol.

“Mr Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank, will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meeting in Washington DC, which opens on Monday, October 13.

“Cardoso, as the alternate governor, replaces the minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Mr Wale Edun, who is indisposed.

“The Nigerian team will also comprise the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anete.”

The development comes amid claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sought Edun’s replacement after the minister suffered a stroke and was flown abroad.

However, a statement from the presidency clarified that the minister is attending to treatment in Nigeria, not abroad, and dismissed his replacement claim.
