Edo police detain officers for extorting N300,000 from furniture maker

The Edo State Police Command has taken action following a video circulating on social media by an influencer, who alleged that some officers attached to the Oba Market Area Command, Benin City, had extorted the sum of ₦ 300,000 from a furniture maker.

The command stated that the officers involved have been promptly identified, the money has been fully recovered, and it has been returned to the victim.

The command also revealed that the said officers have been detained and are to face disciplinary procedures in accordance with the extant regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

In addition, stern administrative measures have been taken against the Oba Market Area Command to ensure professionalism, discipline, and respect for citizens' rights in the discharge of their duties.
