Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, has denied reports alleging that the Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Osaze Osemwingie-Ero, has been arrested for money laundering.

Osagie said the reports were very misleading and unreliable.

“We learnt about the alleged arrest of the Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Commissioner, Hon. Osaze Osemwingie-Ero from unreliable sources on social media and we are unable to confirm either the alleged arrest or what might have led to it," he said.

He also disassociated the alleged arrest from the Edo state Government adding, "We can confirm without equivocation that whatever the issues might be, they are totally personal and have nothing whatsoever to do with the Edo State Government or Governor Godwin Obaseki.”

MyNigeria gathered that Osemwingie-Ero, was arested and detained on grounds on money laundering by worldwide police cooperation and crime control, INTERPOL.

Ero was said to be in possession of $2m.

Sources have provided different backgrounds to the issue. While it was gathered that the money was given to him by Edo State Incumbent Governor, Godwin Obaseki as reported by the Nation, another account stated that the money was give to the commissioner several years ago.

A top Government source claimed the Government was aware and chose to appoint the Commissioner for the position regardless.
