Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has named his top four teams for the 2025/2026 Premier League campaign.

The new EPL season will kick off on Friday, August 15, when current title holders Liverpool host Bournemouth at Anfield.

Speaking to BBC Sports, the former England striker picked Liverpool as favourites to retain the EPL crown.

Rooney named Mikel Arteta's Gunners to finish as runners up for the fourth consecutive season, while Manchester City and Chelsea will complete the top four.

The 39-year-old placed his former club Manchester United in fifth position, a significant leap from their 15th position finish last term.

“I still think they need one or two more signings,” Rooney said about United.

“But I can see what Amorim is doing. It is looking for better for United. I think they can sneak into the top five.”
