Controversial social commentator, Seun Kuti claims that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was a creation of the government of the United States to tackle fraud and other criminal activities being perpetuated by Nigerians globally.
Kuti made the claims in a viral video following the wild allegations by popular cross-dresser Bobrisky that he bribed officials of the antigraft agency to drop the money laundry charges which were leveled against him.
"EFCC does not have the power to prosecute any politician. What is ICPC doing? EFCC was created by the American government. EFCC is funded by the State Department. It was Obasanjo who brought this EFCC to stop fraud in Nigeria," he said in experts of his video that has been shared across multiple social media platforms.
The EFCC was established in April 2003 to investigate and enforce economic and financial crimes. It was also in response to pressure from the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF). The FATF named Nigeria as one of 23 countries that were not cooperating with the international community's efforts to fight money laundering.
